Dr. Johannes Bohnen presented his concept of Corporate Political Responsibility (CPR) at the Democracy Lab "Zeitenwende" of the Protestant Academy in Loccum. The often articulated concern that companies could suffer if they position themselves politically in the public sphere might be understandable, but it fails to acknowledge the complexity of the situation: doing business always takes place in a political context, which one either helps to shape constructively or endures passively - in any case, the role of a spectator is not available to companies. Instead of emphasizing problems, opportunities for credible positioning should be used. For example, REWE ended its business relationship with the DFB because the latter had caved into FIFA's blackmail in the course of the WM in Qatar.
